Bored to Death Tattoo
(tattoo artist in hanoi)

[Luan Nguyen], also known as [Bored to Death Tattoo], is a tattoo artist in hanoi and founder of [The Hangout Studios]. Born into a traditional Hanoian family, he showed a natural talent for drawing from a young age. His grandfather’s handmade shop signs became local landmarks, while his father drew strategic maps during the Vietnam–China border war and later worked as an interior designer — shaping Luan’s eye for detail, composition, and design. These early influences quietly guided his creative path.
Luan began tattooing in 2017, first in a tourist-driven setting where tattoos felt more like quick products than lasting art. Unsure of where to turn but determined to do better, he and his friend [Micky Hoang] opened [The Hangout Studio] in 2019. Their aim was simple: to learn seriously, grow their own styles, and treat tattooing with the respect it deserves.

• Art & Style •
Luan first fell in love with Neo Traditional tattooing — bold, narrative, and imaginative. Over time, he came to appreciate the timeless strength of Traditional tattooing, with its bold lines and enduring presence. Today, his work blends the two: a style between Traditional and Neo Traditional, balancing structure with storytelling.
He explores a wide range of themes, from classic flash and Japanese myths to contemporary and experimental ideas, always focused on creating tattoos that age beautifully and carry meaning.

• Vision •
Tattooing in Vietnam is often dominated by large-scale Japanese work and realism, but Luan has chosen a different path. Through his travels and studies, he has committed to pushing forward Traditional and Neo Traditional styles in Hanoi, even when they were little known locally.
He is also working on a long-term study of Vietnamese traditional motifs, with the hope of bringing this cultural heritage into the tattoo world and sharing its beauty internationally.

• The Hangout Collective •
What began with two young artists has grown into a close-knit community. [The Hangout] now includes artists like [David], [Trung Kien], and [Nhat Bui], all united by a belief in timeless, respectful tattooing. For Luan, The Hangout is more than a studio — it’s a place to keep learning, growing, and creating together, and a hub where tattooers from around the world come for guest spots in Vietnam.
